WELCOME TO A BRAND NEW DAY

The morning breaks, the light returns
Salutations to a brand new day
There seems to be a cosmic wholeness
I gather my resources to chart my way

The liquid notes of a quiet house
The hallowed doorway of the morning
Holds a very special kind of charm
A window is a remarkable thing

All that I was, I am and am not
I drink my infusion of worldwide leaves
Pretty thoughts dance in my head
‘La Paisible’ . . . a home of peace

‘Cead Mile Failte’ . . . one thousand welcomes
I am in very good company
Here I linger, my own aficionado
With my petit fours, tarts and crème brulee

Johnnie carried orchards upon his back
With fresh insight and boundless vigour
Seeds burst into sprigs then trees then forests
The original classroom in nature

Serious faced men drinking cervezas
One Harlem Sunday afternoon
Playing dominoes on wooden cartons
A smile, a chuckle . . . what a boon!

French restaurants, Spanish bodegas and Jewish delis
And many pleasant places more
Coexist in a gentle harmony
Like I have never seen before

The last rays of a fading evening
Clinking glass, pearls on black
The whisper of the bow on a Stradivarius
The evening enchanting in its act

It is now half-past bedtime
Oh how much we loved the view
Chutzpah on a day well done
Arrivederci to me and arrivederci to you

Talk about a small world we live in. Your late uncle Graham Usher was once a good friend of mine. In 1984 I was an operating theatre orderly at St Margarets Hospital in Sydney and met your very fine aunty. My then girl friend, now wife and I use to stay weekends in their caravan at their Ravensdale property. Graham and your aunty were lovely people and welcomed us into their family as such. I did an explosives course back in the 80's and Graham said "there's plenty of things to blow up on the farm". I learnt my craft by making little dams for them. The memories I have of those times are excellent. I remember his children and am glad Anna went on to become a vet. My wife is a vet nurse and we currently live in northern NSW where we work looking after 70 + beautiful dogs and yes they all have names. I have some photos somewhere of your uncle's farm and once I figure out how to attach them I'll do so. Please pass on to your aunty our sorrow on Graham's passing and hope she's doing well in Tamworth, love from Tony and Joanne. The reason I wrote this is I had a dream about Graham last night and through the marvels of this brillant thing the internet I found your post. Nice to meet you Robyn, my email address is leggo1@exemail.com.au, I don't know how to blog yet. See you later
